Premature Evaluation: Cassadaga

Friday, March 30th, 2007
Preliminary blog chatter about Bright Eyes' fifth studio album hasn't boded well for the man who made Omaha famous -- like maybe "Four Winds" is the only thing not blowing on Cassadaga, that the throw-stuff-at-the-band video for that first single's...

Lily Allen Covers Blondie

Friday, March 30th, 2007
In a bleak MySpace post, Lily said "It's the songs. I'm bored." We're not surprised. Tix are still on sale for her set as "the first artist to play the newly-christened Fillmore Irving Plaza"; maybe New Yorkers are burned out...

Lo Fine - “Smile (Woodmont Version)”

Friday, March 30th, 2007
Lo Fine is essentially the work of Kevin O'Rourke -- though, being Joe Pernice fanatics, our eyes lit up to see that ex-Scud Mountain Boy Bruce Tull has a hand in shaping this gentle alt-country shuffle with his unmistakable pedal...

Good Bye-a, Sanjaya

Friday, March 30th, 2007
We've been been silent on the Idol insanity to date, but it's time for the obligatory Sanjaya post. A new tee for your wardrobe? Yeah, we feel a little weird shilling for CollegeHumor, but those kids have so much money...

I Tried But I’m Leaving

TigerCity - Other Girls.

Tigercity doesn't beat around the bush. Why should they? Some situtations just don't require subtlety. They need brevity and action. These are areas in which tigercity are champions. No need to string something along. End that shit. I think we could all learn a lesson here.

I like it when songs are written for specific situations. This isn't for breaking up with your longtime girlfriend. This isn't a song about the heartbreak of leaving a soul mate or whatever. It's not about having your heart torn out. It's about getting excited, hooking up, not finding anything there, and moving the fuck on. Done. Just check lines like "Tell me anything you want as I'm walking away." Hate! "It's nothing that you did, no it's everything the other girls do." Hot damn, son. That is hateful.

Each new song I hear from TigerCity is better than the last. They're really nailing down their formula. It's a real combination of current sounds without sounding too much like any one thing or any one band. They're clearly working hard at getting better, and I'm definitely stoked to hear their upcoming EP this summer. I'm told they're wrapping up recording in the next two weeks, which is nice to hear.

They've got a show tomorrow night in NYC at Gramercy w/Birdmonster (a real fucking robots sandwich, that one). And then again on the 11th of April at the Bowery w/Junior Boys. Not bad, kids. Not bad. This song was even posted on rolling stone.com yesterday. Wild.

Paul Weller’s Spit Spat With Sting

The Brit tabloids are eating this one up this morning: Daily Mirror reports that The Modfather was spotted guzzling beer, "determined to have a good time" at Royal Albert Hall this week, when he came across a framed photo of...

Sexual Earthquakes In Kobe + Toxic Avenger

Sexual Earthquakes In Kobe

Holy shit Toxic Avenger is taking over. I think this is the third Toxic Avenger remix posted on BIGSTEREO in the past month… which might be some kinda record. This latest remix is of a little band from France that is gonna blow up big. Sexual Earthquakes In Kobe sort of have the electro frat boy thing going on that sounds like a cross between Test Icicles and Best Fwends. Totally irreverent, almost bad even, but so good at the same time. This is the anthem: Dance music is my life. Dance music forever. Uh huh.

Love the rap part in the original… it hits you.
