Blitzen Trapper Cover Heart

Friday, March 23rd, 2007
Another cover for your dreary Friday. This one comes from the sonic alchemists of Blitzen Trapper, who generally enjoy taking country conceit and twisting its corners with whatever accoutrements they can kick up, be it an errant synth line or...

Quotes From David Byrne Talking To Music Heads In Austin

Friday, March 23rd, 2007
Another thing we would have loved to hit while in Austin last week was David Byrne's "Record Companies -- Who Needs Them?" talk -- which suggests new marketing models for an industry that, he says, will see digital sales out-pace...

we all have hooks for hands

It's spring again! I think I mention this on Robots every year, but I can't help it: spring music just may be the best kind. And some contenders always come to mind, most namely Modest Mouse's "Float On," "Fresh Feeling" by Eels, anything by Go! Team. Spring songs are ones that just sound like renewal, like everybody waking up. This is what I think of when I hear We All Have Hooks For Hands.

We All Have Hooks For Hands - The Man Trying To Outfox Us All.

Fun! What I really want is for these Minneapolis guys - a big-ass collective on the Afternoon Records label - to tour with Mates Of State and Tilly And The Wall. It would be a cute popfest.

(I should put a disclaimer here that Afternoon Records owner Ian Anderson and I write for the same blog, so we're internet buddies. But he passed this record on to me, and it's objectively awesome.)

The debut of We All Have Hooks For Hands, The Pretender, comes out on April 17. You can pre-order it from Afternoon Records.
