EEEEE!!! YACHT (aka Jona Bechtolt) has been added to LCD Soundsystem tour! He’s gonna launch his tour tonight in San Francisco as the opener for James Murphy’s LCD Soundsystem. Maybe you haven’t heard much about him, but you have to trust the LCD seal of approval.  I’m hurredly trying to finish this post b/c i have to leave to go see him right now! He is releasing his album this saturday so go get it at the show. After the LCD tour, YACHT will continue to tour on his own and will later join up with Tussle
and Architecture in Helsinki. Check out the schedule after the jump if you’re confused.

I love this song…a throwback to a certain wrinkled rock ‘n roller.

College Humor Lip Dubs Harvey Danger

Monday, April 30th, 2007

The subject of this post will make almost no sense to anyone over forty. Anyhoo, the kids at Connected Ventures (College Humor, Defunker, Busted Tees, Vimeo) posted this clip earlier this month and no surprise, it's a big hit on Vimeo. Only one criticism, guys: Did you have to rub it in? We know we will never have that much fun at work in our entire lives. (via)

Nice shirt, Zach!

Spinal Tap Reunite For Live Earth

Monday, April 30th, 2007

You may have heard Nigel Tufnel, David St. Hubbins, and Derek Smalls are reforming (again) in support of a good cause, Al Gore's mega SOS/Live Earth concert series. Of course Marty DiBergi (who "coined the term global warming") was instrumental in getting the band back together, and he's documented his efforts in a new 15-minute short film.

It opened the Tribeca Film Festival last week, and now you can watch it at liveearth.msn.com. See rehearsals for the new tune "Warmer Than Hell" and hear the trio discuss raising money to buy ferrets caesar salad. Also Nigel's been raising miniature horses. (Wonder if they eat miniature bread.)

If you wanna quote This Is Spinal Tap in the comments, we won't stop you.

We’re old pals…

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Because we like to check in on our friends from time to time, here's a little update from Bumblebeez, who were on our first compilation way back when...

Word from Modular HQ down-under is that they've been hard at work and is "the most energetic rammed-with-ideas-thing we've done since the Avalanches" - expect the album in July. The video is for a song called "Dr. Love" and it is hilarious (I love the sharpie bling!) and bizarre to the max. Not unlike the band's ridiculously psychedelic website.

Enjoy!

Zach Galifinakis Interprets “Tomorrow”

Monday, April 30th, 2007

No one goes to Coachella for the comedy, but 'shroom-fueled, bewildered college students make for a rapt audience; it's only natural Brian Posehn, Patton Oswalt, Zach Galifianakis and other edgy jokemakers would be invited to perform.

On Friday afternoon, while "Tomorrow" blared from the Gobi stage speakers, Mr. Galifianakis donned a Little Orphan Annie dress and silently tore through this flipchart on a presentation easel.

Courtney Love Plans Kurt Cobain Garage Sale

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Courtney Love had so much fun selling her fat clothes on eBay, she's now planning an auction for Kurt's wardrobe, according to Spinner.com.

"I'm going to have a Christie's auction. [My house] is like a mausoleum. My daughter doesn't need to inherit a giant hefty bag full of flannel fucking shirts ... A sweater, a guitar and the lyrics to 'Teen Spirit' -- that's what my daughter gets. And the rest of it we'll just fucking sell."
She's not kidding about the grunge mausoleum...

New Buffalo Tom - “Three Easy Pieces”

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Angela Chase would be ecstatic with all the '90s alt-rock reunions upon us. Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against The Machine, and now ... Buffalo Tom. (C'mon, you totally remember that episode.)

This summer, Bill Janovitz, Chris Colbourn, and Tom Maginnis are releasing their first album of new material in nine years, and we've got the title track to share. Fans of the Boston trio won't be disappointed by its familiar fuzzy fretwork and singalong chorus. Get psyched, Jon Stewart.

Buffalo Tom - "Three Easy Pieces" (MP3)

Three Easy Pieces is out 7/10 on New West imprint Ammal Records. Tour dates after the jump. They're opening for 30 Seconds To Mars (kidding).

April Of The Penguin

Monday, April 30th, 2007

In New York, we get used seeing celebrities at concerts. For a while there, it was hard to hit a rock show in NYC and not run into David Cross, Paul Rudd, or the cast of Law & Order: SVU. Nothing wrong with that. There are plenty of poseurs out there, but a lot of these guys are real fans. And who says being famous and liking cool music are mutually exclusive? As long as celebrities are using their personal connections and PR clout to support bands and enjoy music -- as opposed to, say, climbing onstage with J&M Chain -- we're cool with it.

But the thing about celebrity sightings is that they usually conform to type. Matthew McConaughey, hirsute and hippie-dancing at SXSW, for example, or Ron Jeremy rubbing elbows with Peaches (not sure if we'd want to rub anything against Peaches at this point, but hey, he's Ron Jeremy).

What, then, do we make of the curious case of Danny DeVito?

Joseph Arthur Deems Paste A Caricature, Beige

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Paste, America's #1 Triple-A music magazine, has been crushing on singer/songwriter/erotic poet Joseph Arthur for a while, with raves for 2006's Nuclear Daydream and this year's follow-up Let's Just Be (3.5 stars). The editors invited him to perform for Paste's December podcast and March issue launch party. They even named him one of the best 100 songwriters alive.

It must've stung, then, when Joe sent the high-brow rock rag this letter (printed in the current issue)...

New Interpol - “The Heinrich Manuever”

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Earlier this month, you got a blurry taste of "The Heinrich Manuever" from Our Love To Admire, the Interpol LP out 7/10. Now, thanks to exciting advances in radio-ripping technology, and heads up from a few Stereogum readers, you can enjoy the tune (minus the first two seconds) in pristine 192 kbps compressed audio. Check it out here.

The tune doesn't present the directional shift suggested by the group's wintry website makeover and Carlos' new floppy-coiff (dude speaks through his hair). To be perfectly honest, we're thinking "Slow Hands Pt. II." But this is a strong single, sure to grow on us after even more listens, and we're so digging the haunting synth flourishes in the chorus.

So who's Heinrich?
