New New Violators - “Your Devilish Eyes”

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Band to watch and Puppet Show alum New Violators are back in Trondheim, Norway after their wave of NYC and Austin shows in March, adding to the queue of unreleased gems by writing and recording even more (still don't even have anything out yet). Journos are quick to call out The Cure, Echo & the Bunnymen, Moz, and U2 as sonic touch points -- all undeniable -- but on this great new cut we'll take the last of that list (some young Bono) and throw in Oranges & Lemons XTC.

Not much to report on album and tour info just yet, but we'll keep ya posted.

Coachella: Rage Fans Didn’t Like Crowded House

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Like the Jesus & Mary Chain, Crowded House got their "unofficial" reunion show out of the way at Glass House on 4/27, where they joked about expecting a hostile crowd of mainly Rage reunion seekers. Prescient thought, 'cause despite taking the Coachella Stage a full three hours before RATM's headlining set, the crowd was NOTHING but Zach and Morello fans. Nothing. And as they joked at Glass House, the kids were gonna be in the mood to throw things.

New Stars - “Reunion (Jason Collett Mix)”

Tuesday, May 1st, 2007

Torquil, Amy, and the rest of Stars have entrusted the reworking, covering, and remixing of Set Yourself On Fire to a cadre of Canadian artists, yielding Do You Trust Your Friends?, out later this month on Arts & Crafts. Live-fave "Reunion" was placed in the hands of Broken Social Scener Jason Collett, turning Stars' wistful cut into something of a rollicking country-bar rocker.

These days see Torquil concentrating on his Memphis side project, while Amy's doing some solo gigs and just contributed a vocal to one of best cuts on the excellent Montag record. Meanwhile, Do You Trust Your Friends? features contributions from the likes of Final Fantasy, the Russian Futurists, Montag, and Junior Boys. It's available starting 5/22 on Arts & Crafts. Tracklist and cover song assignments after the jump.
