Marilyn And Alice, Together At Last

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

Sunday night at the B'Estival in Bucharest, Romania, Marilyn Manson regaled his fans in an unabashedly awkward duet on "Sweet Dreams" with makeup-man icon Alice Cooper, looking either like he lost a bet, or like he was lost and in need of Manson's reassurance (what's with the one-hand-in-your-pocket, Alanis?). What's cute about this clip, though, is that it offers a sneak peek of an inevitable show in 20 years when Marilyn joins Gerard Way on a triumphant rendition of the similarly appropriately titled "Famous Last Words." Then they'll uncomfortably shake hands and hug! And we'll probably still be cracking Marilyn Manson jokes. Sad for everybody involved, really.

The White Stripes Play A Secret Show A Winnipeg Transit Bus, Help Its Passengers See God

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

File this one under 'Jack & Meg are the coolest sister-lover-brother bandmates ever.' While on their Canadian sightseeing tour (shows in each province), the Stripes set up something special for a handful of message board trolls. Here's what the YouTube uploader had to say...

This is a video clip of an unannounced afternoon show in Winnipeg. We heard on a message board of a surprise show at the forks in downtowm Winnipeg. We were ammong 20 people escorted into a bus, which picked up Jack and Meg at the next stop.
The clip picks up with the Whites singing "The Wheels On The Bus Go 'Round And 'Round," before taking a request for "Hotel Yorba." Some of the exlamations you'll hear:

I think it's high time a song like this came along: an inspirational story about dropping out of school to join a band. Hell, Win Butler from Arcade Fire, not to mention hundreds of other people, have done it. I'd imagine not everyone who has done this has done it without regrets, but maybe young Danny B. Cool is different.

Spiritual Mansions - Danny B. Cool.

I don't know much about Spiritual Mansions, other than the fact that they're from Minneapolis and on local label Afternoon Records. I do know that there's nobody named Dan in the band, so I suppose this plea hasn't paid off. The real band members - Ryan Harris on vocals and guitar, Mark Hanson on drums, Athony Schaefer on bass, Joel Roberts on guitar, and Sam Harvey-Carlson on keyboards - have put out a fun little record with Give Us Your Hearts, which came out on June 19. It's only seven songs long, but it has some solid tracks on it.

You can order Give Us Your Hearts from the label.

Dustin and Garret

“Tyrannosaurus” by Dustin and Garret is aptly named — this track is huge, and it’s gonna tear you to pieces or swallow you whole. If we were still hunting for the dirtiest sounds then we’d say we found it… “Tyrannosaurus” is the dirtiest sounding track you’re gonna hear west of the Atlantic Ocean.

Our BFF posted D&G’s Three Six Mafia remix a little while back… if you missed it:

Permanently Down, Permanently Out: AllofMP3 & Scooter

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

Putin visits Bush, AllofMP3 gets permanently shut down (until someone puts another quarter in that Whac-a-Mole) and Scooter Libby gets out of jail. We have so much to learn from each other!

New Muse - “Man Of Mystery”

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

British publications know how to woo us cheap music fans, don't they? Take for example a recent issue of the genre-coining rag New Musical Express, who recently gave away a 13-track compilation with their Muse-cover issue. Of course the disc didn't always live up to the 'new' musical part (see: the Lips' "Yeah Yeah Yeah Song," CSS's "Alala," and a track from the defunct Death From Above 1979), but it was Muse-curated, so they're not to blame. Plus, the comp contained some freshly recorded Muse in "Man Of Mystery," a cover of '60s instrumental group the Shadows. In and out under two minutes, no Bellamy wailing, but good for completists -- and since NME says it's fast becoming a live fave, good for your Muse @ MSG prep. Have a listen at Scatter o'Light.

Between this and the Mail On Sunday giving away Prince's Planet Earth LP, we may never visit a record store again! You know, if we lived in England. And liked Muse b-sides and new Prince.

Girls Like You Are Always on the Go

Miss Fairchild - Number One.

In the movie of my life, Miss Fairchild is the house band for the good times.

On this new record, they've really figured out how to sound like a band, which is what they are. The Great Dunlap's flute has never sounded better. P.Nice's beats snap and bounce like a greased rollerskate wheel. The pinched vocals are smooth like buttered honey. It's rare to hear a band having so much fun on record. And that doesn't even come close to the sexual explosion of their live show. They put on one of my favorite shows I've ever seen.

At any rate, this jam is the first one on the record, and the first one to get released on the internets. It's got everything you want, really. What else could you ask for? A nice story, a sick beat, and a chorus that gets your whip moving around the corners a little faster in the morning. Can't you just picture your girl putting her fancy clothes on to this one, while you're all nervous and driving over to pick her up? I mean, that's kind of corny, but that's how Miss Fairchild rolls. It's pure summer fun.

So, the is off the new record, and also off their sick new mixtape. It's free if you sing up for their fanclub, and hot damn if it ain't worth it. You get four new songs off the record and an hours worth of their inspirational jams. It's the best thing to bump with your windows down you'll hear all summer. click here to get it. Highly recommeded.
