Oh damn — forgive me, but I don’t know how this one slipped by us. I love me some Young Love, and I love me some Gossip. So Young Love covering The Gossip should be a good thing? Wrong. I really really wanted to love Young Love’s cover of “Standing In The Way Of Control”, but after a first listen I’m just left with an awful feeling… like the same feeling I get when I watch the Lawrence Welk show. I imagine a lot of polyester and bad hair.
Dan Keye’s voice just does nothing for “SITWOC”, and gosh… the instruments suck all the life out of the original. The synth in the begining is promising, but it stops there. It just feels like a bad joke… one better left with friends. Covers like this belong in the shower or a drunk night out doing the karaoke.
Or maybe it’s just the 96 kbps… because I have a feeling at a higher bitrate it might sound 99 times better.
Or maybe we’re just totally spoiled by Soulwax’s take that anything after that is going to sound like complete rubbish.
